Grunge Up Your Poppies
Hello everyone,
Hope you are all well out there. I know some of you have had poorly animals to cope with so my best wishes go to you all and the lovely animals too of course!
I have done a painting on my beloved wood inspired by this very beautiful post here.
The only trouble is I have no poppy stamps! That doesn't usually deter me so out came the Speedycarve and I made a little poppy stamp (which you can see later) but although I was pleased with it, it wasn't quite big enough. So I thought, just draw the poppies and then paint them......simples!
Grab your piece of wood, sand it down, Decoart Gesso it, brayer on your paint ( I used the cheaper Decoart Acrylic Crafters paints) add a little stamping for texture and interest, draw your flowers, paint them using Decoart Media Fluid paints, then use a posca pen and Stabilo all pencil to highlight the flowers....all done.....oh and add aTim Holtz Small Talk sentiment and you're all finished.
I cannot recommend the Decoart Media Fluid paints enough. They really have the most wonderful, statin sheen to them and the colours are so vibrant, makes painting a real joy.
I am entering this into the following challenges:
The Mixed Media Monthly, May Flowers
Anything but Cute, Vintage Garden
Stamping Sensations, Flower Power ( I've used a Dina Wakley stamp for the background)
That Craft Place, Shabby Chic
Inspiration Destination, Anything Goes
Hope you like it
Donna x

What a title Donna! You can't grunge pretty poppies no matter how hard you try. They will pretty up grunge without even trying. Your poppies are quite pretty and that grunge background is a beauty. "...just draw it and paint it." You make it sound so easy. For me that's easier said than done. So I will just sit here and enjoy your drawing.

Donna, I'm loving that you hand drew and painted your poppies! Before I found stamps and die cuts and such, I was a handdraw/handpaint kinda girl, so I always have to give a big round of applause to anyone who steps up to the plate to do this! Your poppies are c'est magnifique! And a lovely colored background to boot! Love the textured look you have achieved using just paints!

Thanks for referring us to your inspiration site, Donna. I enjoyed reading both that post and yours! Great texture but softer colors allow the background to be just that...ground...allowing your beautiful red flowers to command center stage! I have a canvas. I have paints. You might just have inspired me!
ReplyDeleteWow Donna, the textures on this and your poppies is simply stunning, talented lady ! Thanks for joining in the challenge at That Craft Place and good luck.
